What I Love About Playa Vista. No. 1—The 29 Parks and Public Spaces
One of the first things I share with clients when they are considering a move to Playa Vista is this: we have 29 parks and public spaces woven throughout the community. For a master planned neighborhood in the heart of Los Angeles, that is extraordinary.
I have lived here for 18 years, and I still appreciate how easy it is to step outside and be in a beautiful, thoughtfully designed outdoor space within minutes. These parks are not just patches of grass. They are extensions of our homes, gathering places for neighbors, and part of daily life here.
Concert Park: The Heart of the Community
If Playa Vista has a central living room, it is Concert Park. It is one of the largest green spaces in the neighborhood and a true focal point of community life.
On any given afternoon, you will see kids running freely across the grass, parents chatting on picnic blankets, and neighbors catching up while their dogs play nearby. During the summer, Concert Park comes alive with Concerts in the Park, where residents bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy live music under the evening sky. It is also a favorite location for birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and community wide events.
For many families, it is the backdrop to some of their best memories.
Crescent Park: A Park Within a Park
Stretching roughly three to four blocks, Crescent Park feels expansive and peaceful. A one way street gently encircles it, making it accessible yet calm.
The fountains create a sense of serenity, and the 9 hole putting green is a unique feature that residents truly enjoy. There are plenty of tables and chairs for gatherings, casual lunches, or working outdoors. It is common to see neighbors tossing a frisbee with their dogs, parents throwing baseballs with their kids, or friends meeting for a relaxed afternoon hangout.
It is active, but never overwhelming. Open, but still intimate.
Randy Johnson Bluff Creek Fields: Room to Play
For sports and larger scale recreation, Randy Johnson Bluff Creek Fields is a major asset to the community. The large astro turf soccer field hosts youth leagues, practices, and weekend games.
There is also an enclosed children’s playground and two dedicated dog parks, giving both kids and pets safe spaces to run and socialize. For families with active children, this park alone can be a major deciding factor in choosing Playa Vista.
The Lawn: Relaxed and Resort Inspired
The Lawn feels almost like a boutique hotel courtyard tucked into the neighborhood. With its lily pond, reclining outdoor chairs, sun umbrellas, and numerous tables for gathering and dining, it is one of the most relaxing spaces in the community.
There is also a playground featuring a ropes climbing structure that kids absolutely love. Parents can sit comfortably nearby while keeping an eye on their children, creating an environment that feels both social and secure.
The Lounge: Cozy Evenings Outdoors
Then there is The Lounge, which offers something a little different. The large outdoor fireplace surrounded by Adirondack chairs makes it a favorite spot on cooler evenings. Residents often use the public barbecue grill for potlucks and small gatherings.
It is not unusual to see neighbors meeting for dinner outdoors, hosting casual celebrations, or simply enjoying a quiet night by the fire.
For me, the parks are more than amenities. They shape the lifestyle here. They make Playa Vista feel open, breathable, and connected.
In a city known for traffic and density, having 29 thoughtfully designed public spaces creates something special: a community where outdoor living is not an afterthought. It is a way of life.
And this is just No. 1 on my list.
