What I Love About Playa Vista. No. 2—Diversity
Another reason I have loved calling Playa Vista home for the past 18 years is its remarkable diversity. Not just cultural diversity, but generational and professional diversity as well.
This community truly brings together people from all walks of life.
A Multigenerational Neighborhood
In Playa Vista, you will find individuals living on their own for the very first time. You will meet young couples settling into their first apartment or purchasing their first condominium. You will see families with infants and toddlers pushing strollers along tree lined sidewalks.
There are working professionals in tech, media, healthcare, and finance. There are retirees and empty nesters who have downsized from larger homes but still want to stay close to their adult children and grandchildren who also live here. Many of these residents appreciate the convenience of condominium living, homeowners associations, and the walkability that reduces the need to drive daily.
It is a rare mix, and it works beautifully.
A Walkable Lifestyle
One of the reasons this diversity thrives is because of how accessible everything is. Residents can walk to Whole Foods for groceries, meet friends at a café, grab dinner at one of the many restaurants, or stroll to school and the parks.
Some residents even walk to work at the media, tech, and startup companies located within Playa Vista and the greater Silicon Beach area. The ability to live, work, and enjoy life within a few blocks creates a strong sense of connection.
A Hub for Students and Faculty
Being less than a mile from Loyola Marymount University means we have undergraduate and graduate students living here, as well as faculty members who choose Playa Vista for its convenience and quality of life.
Many other residents commute to University of California, Los Angeles and University of Southern California, making it a practical home base for higher education in Los Angeles.
Connected to the Region
Location plays a huge role in who chooses to live here. Los Angeles International Airport is about four miles away, which is incredibly convenient for business travelers, professional athletes, and residents who frequently fly.
Sports fans appreciate the proximity to SoFi Stadium, home to the Rams and Chargers, and the Intuit Dome, the new home of the Clippers. The Lakers practice facility in nearby El Segundo adds to the professional sports presence in the area.
For beach lovers, Playa del Rey is only about two miles away, offering quick access to the coast without the density of more tourist heavy beach neighborhoods.
A Landing Spot for Transplants
Over the years, I have helped many families relocate here from San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and beyond. Often, they have been referred by friends or colleagues who describe Playa Vista as one of the best landing spots in Los Angeles.
People are drawn to its newer construction, thoughtfully planned public spaces, 24 hour security patrols, urban energy, and strong sense of safety. What keeps them here is the community itself. It is a true melting pot of residents from across the United States and around the world.
After 18 years, what stands out most to me is that Playa Vista feels inclusive. Whether you are 22 or 72, starting your first job or enjoying retirement, raising young children or visiting grandkids, there is a place for you here.
And that diversity is not just something I observe as a real estate professional. It is something I experience every single day as a neighbor.
